We’re Hiring a Peace-Loving UX Badass

Bolt | Peters needs a new colleague to join our acclaimed User Experience team, but unlike so many companies looking for UX Ninjas or Ninja Developers, we don’t want people bent on assassination under the cover of darkness. Instead, you must have a strong background in UX research including study design, moderation, and analysis, and you need to be eager to learn and develop new methodologies.  Ideally you also have IA or Design chops, with a portfolio of work you can show us.  You’re active in the UX community and want to become more prominent; you’re a polished writer and speaker whether presenting client results or your own ideas.  You play well with others, have strong opinions but know how to listen neutrally, and have a pragmatic approach to helping clients create change.  Oh, and you don’t mind getting your hands dirty with a little video editing.

Job Description

  • Improve user experiences for our wide-ranging list of Clients
  • Conduct UX studies remotely and in the field for prototypes and products of all sorts.
  • Develop concept designs and/or architectures in response to research findings.

Experience

  • 3+ years experience in qualitative user experience research, one-on-one moderation experience preferred.
  • 1+ years in project and client management.
  • Design/IA portfolio – doesn’t have to be huge but should be interesting.
  • BS/BA required. A degree in HCI, information design, cognitive science or related field is nice, but hey surprise us.
  • Consulting experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding and practice of the fundamentals of social research and ethnography.
  • Comfort with social media, blogging, and public speaking.

Specifics

  • Strong interest in HCI / Usability / UCD.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, social, and diplomatic skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task within tight timelines.
  • Desire to experiment with innovative testing techniques.
  • Fast typing (50 WPM +). Can’t be slipping on notes during testing.

Super Bonus Points

  • Development or technical experience with web technologies like Rails, PHP, MySQL, Linux, XHTML, or CSS.
  • Talent with PhotoShop, Visio, Omnigraffle, or any visual skills for making fancy-looking mockups and wire frames.

Details

  • Contract to full-time hire – we need to see you in action.
  • Competitive salary depends on experience.
  • Full Benefits including Blue Shield PPO, Dental by Fortis, 401k by Lincoln Financial Group, and profit-sharing.

How To Apply

  • Send us an email at info@boltpeters.com that shows you checked out our company, and is not the exact same email you sent to some other, far more boring company.
  • Attachments for your resume are fine (PDF, DOC, etc.)
  • Please do not attach a cover letter as a word .doc. Just a plain old email is great for that part.
  • Examples of work that you can send are dandy.

  • Do you take interns who are young usability / accessibility badasses, with some of this experience but not all of it? I'm doing my thesis using remote testing. I kind of thought I had made it up since nobody ever talks about it in mainstream UX classes!
